TapIn Pokémon

Changelog

What changed in each season of TapIn Pokémon.

Johto update

21 October 2026. The second season adds the Johto region and moves the whole game to Gold and Silver rules.

  • 100 new Pokémon, Chikorita to Celebi, for 251 in total. Pokédex pages, artwork, sprites and cries for all of them.
  • Six starters. Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile join Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Professor Elm now stands next to Professor Oak.
  • Gold and Silver battle rules. Dark and Steel types and the new type chart. Special splits into Special Attack and Special Defense. New moves with their Gen 2 values, critical hits at 17 in 256 and weather from Rain Dance, Sunny Day and Sandstorm.
  • Held items and berries. Give one item to each Pokémon. Berries trigger by themselves in battle. Wild Pokémon can hold items.
  • Friendship. Pokémon grow attached as they level up, win and lead your party. Return, Frustration and the friendship evolutions depend on it.
  • Day and night. Morning, day and night follow your device's clock. Some Pokémon only appear at certain times, and Eevee evolves into Espeon by day and Umbreon by night.
  • Gender and shininess come from a Pokémon's DVs, as in Gold and Silver.
  • Kurt's balls: Fast, Level, Lure, Heavy, Love, Friend and Moon Ball.
  • New evolutions: trade evolutions with King's Rock, Metal Coat, Dragon Scale and Up-Grade, friendship evolutions, baby Pokémon and Tyrogue.
  • A world that moves. Your lead Pokémon follows you around the app. Wild Pokémon run across the screen. Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Lugia and Ho-Oh fly over and Raikou, Entei and Suicune run past: click one to battle it. Team Rocket floats by in their balloon and tries to steal your Poké Balls.
  • Weather and time of day in every community, set by its gym type.
  • More legendary events. Hosts can now call Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh and Celebi to their live.
  • Your Kanto save carries over. Every Pokémon, item, badge and point is kept. Stats are recalculated with the Gold and Silver formula, friendship starts at the species' base value and held items start empty.
