Evolution
Level, stones, trades, friendship and Tyrogue.
When a Pokémon meets its condition, the screen says "What? X is evolving!". Let it finish, or press B: Stop evolution to keep the current form; it will try again next time the condition is met. Every evolution is worth 30 points, and the new species goes into your Pokédex as caught.
A Pokémon holding an Everstone never evolves.
By level
Most Pokémon evolve when they reach a level, after a battle or after a Rare Candy: Bulbasaur at 16, Cyndaquil at 14, Dratini at 30. The level is on every Pokédex page.
Tyrogue evolves at level 20 into one of three Pokémon, decided by its stats at that moment:
| Attack compared with Defense | Evolves into |
|---|---|
| Attack higher | Hitmonlee |
| Attack lower | Hitmonchan |
| Equal | Hitmontop |
With a stone
Use the stone from the bag on the Pokémon. It evolves at once, at any level.
| Stone | Evolutions |
|---|---|
| Fire Stone | Vulpix, Growlithe, Eevee (Flareon) |
| Water Stone | Poliwhirl (Poliwrath), Shellder, Staryu, Eevee (Vaporeon) |
| Thunder Stone | Pikachu, Eevee (Jolteon) |
| Leaf Stone | Gloom (Vileplume), Weepinbell, Exeggcute |
| Moon Stone | Nidorina, Nidorino, Clefairy, Jigglypuff |
| Sun Stone | Gloom (Bellossom), Sunkern |
Stones cost ₽2,100 at the Poké Mart.

These Pokémon evolve the moment they arrive in a trade. Some need to hold an item while they travel.

The held item is used up. Trade with a friend and trade back; both trades count.

New moves on evolution
After evolving, a Pokémon checks the new species' level-up moves for its current level. If it already knows four moves, the game asks which one to forget.
