Items in battle
Using an item takes your turn. Wild battles and gym battles allow items. PvP battles and tournament matches close the bag: you win with what your Pokémon know.
Balls and X items only work in battle. Trying one from the party screen shows "That item can only be used in battle".
Where items come from
- The Poké Mart sells most of them.
- Wild Pokémon sometimes hold an item; catch one and its item goes into your bag.
- A move like Thief takes the opponent's item during a wild battle.
- Rare items come from events, such as beating Team Rocket.
